Unveiling the Enigma: The Story Behind Justin Eely and His Special Day

Who Was Justin Eely and Why Is One Day Dedicated to Him?

Who Was Justin Eely and Why Is One Day Dedicated to Him?

One Day has been on my mind ever since I binged every single episode this week, and to be honest, I’m not sure I’ll ever be the same. Portraying the love story of Dexter Mayhew and Emma Morley, the 14-part Netflix series is based on David Nicholls’ best-selling 2009 book which I also devoured when it was released back in the day. Starring Leo Woodall of The White Lotus fame and Ambika Mod (This Is Going to Hurt), One Day is an incredibly relatable, heartwarming, and thoughtful view of a love story that spans 20 years. Checking in on the same day every year from 1988 to 2007, the series is blissfully nostalgic and left viewers obsessed and frankly, bawling.

Who was Justin Eely?

Justin was a London-based finishing editor who worked on One Day and clearly played a key role in making the show the success that it is. Finishing editors take on the technical role of editing the very final part of production before it’s released. Having previously worked on shows such as The Crown, Killing Eve, Bodies, and Asteroid City, according to his IMDb, Eely was involved in the film and TV industry for over 20 years, working across more than 100 productions.

Justin Eely’s Legacy

Justin Eely was well loved in the industry, with a previous employer even saying that he was someone “anyone would want on their team” and that he loved “the process of collaborating with the many creative people who visit his edit suite during the finishing phase of their shows.” Eely’s Instagram has been set to private, though other publications report that he sadly leaves behind his partner and daughter.

Remembering Justin Eely

It’s heartwarming to see the dedication to Justin Eely at the end of One Day, honoring his contributions to the series and the industry as a whole. His work behind the scenes helped bring to life the beautiful love story of Dexter and Emma, and his legacy lives on through the impact he had on those he worked with.
